A lazy afternoon on the deck, a rainy Sunday you didn't want to waste, a backyard dinner that almost got rained out... A waterproof retractable pergola canopy quietly solves all of it. Stretch it over your pergola, span it between two posts, or cover the deck you've been meaning to actually use. When the sun comes back out, slide it away and enjoy the open sky.
Where it works
Hang it over a pergola, a patio, or a garden yard structure. Stretch it between freestanding posts or wall-mounted beams. Pull it across the poolside corner that's always too hot by midday. If there are two anchor points and an open space in between, this canopy fits.
Why you'll love it
It only takes a few seconds to slide it on or off:
- On hot days, it blocks sunlight and keeps the space beneath it noticeably cooler.
- On rainy days, its waterproof fabric channels water away so your outdoor plans don't have to change.
- And on the days when the weather is just right, simply slide it back and let the light in.
The fabric is built to last through seasons of sun, rain, and everything in between. Because it runs along a lightweight wire cable rather than a rigid frame, it stays visually airy and unobtrusive.
How it installs
The installation is simple by design. We wanted to offer a system that anyone can set up on an existing structure, without complex rail systems or specialist hardware.
It consists of four anchor points, stainless steel wire cables, and a wave-shaped sail that glides smoothly along the cables.
Fix the pad eyes to your posts, beams, or walls, tension the wires with the turnbuckles, clip the sail on using the hangers, and you're done. A genuine DIY install that requires no specialist skills. Most setups are finished within an hour.
Color options
We offer three neutral colors that suit the style of most outside spaces:
- Creamy white: bright and breezy
- Beige: warm and natural
- Gray: clean and contemporary
Kit options
Complete kit: includes the sail, stainless steel wire cables, tensioning hardware, and all fixings. Everything you need to install from scratch.
Fabric only: a replacement sail for an existing wire cable setup. Swap in a new color or refresh worn fabric without replacing the full system.
Installing the retractable pergola canopy is a straightforward DIY project that requires no specialist skills or tools. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you set up.
- Choose your anchor points Select four solid fixing points on your structure — pergola beams, wooden posts, walls, or a combination. The two pairs of anchor points should face each other across the width of the space you want to cover.
- Fix the pad eyes Screw the four pad eyes into your anchor points using the included screws. Make sure they are firmly secured — they will carry the tension of the wire cables.
- Run the wire cables Thread the wire cables between the pad eyes on each side. Run one cable along each long edge of the space to be covered.
- Tension the cables Use the included turnbuckles to tension each cable. Tighten them gradually and evenly, checking that both cables have a similar level of tension. A slight downward angle along the length of the cables is recommended to help rainwater run off rather than pool.
- Slide the poles into the sail The shade sail features a series of sewn channels along its length. Slide one pole into each channel, working your way from one end of the sail to the other. The poles will hold the fabric open and give it its characteristic wave shape.
- Hang the sail onto the cables Once all poles are in place, clip the two hangers onto the ends of each pole and hook them onto the wire cables. Work along the full length of the sail, attaching each pole one by one. Once in place, the sail should glide freely along the cables.
- Check and adjust Slide the canopy back and forth along the cables to verify it glides freely. Check for any uneven tension or friction points and adjust the turnbuckles or hangers as needed.

Common questions
It's a genuine DIY project that requires no specialist skills or tools.
- You'll need to fix four pad eyes to your structure (frame, pergola, beams, posts...)
- run and tension the wire cables using the included turnbuckles
- then clip the sail onto the cables with the hangers.
Most installations are done within an hour.
Any solid structure with two parallel anchor points will work:
- pergola beams
- wooden posts
- walls
- or a mix of these
As long as the fixing points are sturdy enough to hold the cable tension, you're good to go.
The fabric is built to withstand year-round outdoor conditions: UV exposure, rain, and humidity. That said, we recommend retracting the canopy during heavy storms or strong winds to extend its lifespan.
Yes, the complete kit includes everything needed for a new installation: the sail, wire cables, pad eyes, turnbuckles, hangers, and all fixings.
However, the fabric-only option is a replacement sail for customers who already have the cable system in place.
