A green all-purpose tarp for the covering jobs that come up every few weeks around a yard or a garden. At 8 mil it sits in the light duty tier, which makes it the right buy for seasonal and intermittent use rather than a cover you leave out for years. Green blends into hedging and planting, so it stays visually quiet in a garden setting in a way a blue tarp does not.
What it is for
Garden and equipment covers
Mowers, patio furniture, trailers, grills and stacked materials all sit still for weeks at a time and get rained on. This is the tarp for covering them between uses, and the green blends into planting rather than announcing itself from the house.
Woodpile and log rack covers
Cover the top and the upper third of the sides so the wood keeps drying, and leave the rest open. Green suits a stack that sits along a hedge or at the back of a bed.
Camping and shelter
Light enough to carry, so it works as a hammock rain fly, a bushcraft shelter or a ground sheet under a tent. Pitch it off a ridge line or a pole so rain runs off instead of collecting in the middle, and keep a ground sheet slightly smaller than your tent footprint.
Coops, kennels and animal housing
Wraps a run or a kennel roof for a season. Let it extend past the frame so runoff lands clear of the bedding, and leave one side open for ventilation.
Hauling, moving and ground protection
Dragging leaves, mulch or brush across a yard, covering a load in a pickup bed, protecting a lawn during a delivery. These jobs wear a tarp out whatever you spend on it, so light duty is the sensible tier to buy.
Garden and soil work
Shades a raised bed through a heat spell, covers a compost heap, or protects prepared soil from heavy rain before planting.
Material and finish
The fabric
Coated polyethylene, built in two parts: a woven PE mesh carries the load and a laminated coating on both faces seals it. The weave is what gives a poly tarp its strength, and it is strong for its weight, which is the point of this tier. At 3.84 oz per square yard the tarp stays light enough to throw over a mower single-handed and to carry in a pack. That weight is honest for 8 mil, since a tarp cannot be light and heavy duty at once, and a light tarp that is well made will outlast a thicker one that is thinly coated.
Waterproof and UV-treated
The coating makes it fully waterproof rather than water resistant. Water beads off and nothing passes through the material itself, so leaks only happen where water is allowed to pool. Pitch it with a slope or a ridge and it will shed everything that lands on it. It is UV-treated as well, which slows the surface breakdown that turns an untreated tarp chalky and brittle after a single summer of direct sun.
Heat-sealed edges and rustproof grommets
The edges are heat-sealed rather than stitched. A sealed edge has no needle holes, so there is no line of perforations for water to track through and no thread to rot or unravel where the tarp is under tension. Grommets are sturdy rustproof metal, set into the sealed hem, and they will not stain the fabric or seize up after a wet winter.

FAQ
Tarp sizes are quoted as cut size, meaning the material before the edges are finished. Expect the tarp you unfold to measure a few percent smaller in each direction. Order one size up from the object you are covering, and add at least 2 ft in each direction for anything you need to pitch or tie down.
No, tarps ship on their own. The grommets are in the tarp, but the ball bungees, rope, clips and stakes that hold it down are separate items. Add them to the same order if you need the cover up straight away.
Waterproof. Nothing passes through the material itself. Leaks come from water pooling in a slack section until it finds a seam or a grommet hole, which is why pitching matters. Give the tarp a slope or a raised center so rain runs off.
UV is what ends most tarps rather than rain. That is why all of our tarps are UV-treated, which buys you seasons rather than months
- Light duty tarps at 5 to 8 mil give you a few months to a year in full sun
- 10 to 12 mil runs 1 to 3 years
- 14 mil and above runs 3 to 5.
Southern states and high altitude shorten all of these. Dry it fully and fold it before storing, because a damp tarp packed away comes out mildewed.
Yes, though you lose the finished edge and the grommets along the side you cut.
Seal the raw edge with tarp repair tape and set new grommets with a grommet kit, otherwise the cut edge will fray and split from the corner inward.
