This natural coconut fibre rope is the recommended accessory for installing our coir shade sails. It is used to tension each corner of the sail between its anchor points, and its rough, fibrous texture makes it easy to tie secure knots that hold under outdoor conditions.
Made from 100% unprocessed coconut fibre with no dyes, chemicals, or synthetic additives, it is the natural complement to a natural product.
Installing a coir shade sail
When installing a shade sail, each corner needs a length of rope to connect it to its anchor point and allow for tensioning. The recommended length at each corner is 1 to 3 feet (30 to 90 cm), which gives enough slack to tie securely and adjust tension evenly across all four corners.

32.5 ft roll (10 m): Sufficient for most standard installations. With four corners requiring 1 to 3 feet each, a 10 m roll covers a typical setup with rope to spare for knots and adjustments.

65 ft roll (20 m): The safer choice if your anchor points are further apart, if you are working with a larger sail, or if you simply want extra rope on hand for re-tensioning over time.
Not sure which length to choose?
For most installations, the 32.5 ft (10 m) roll is sufficient. Choose the 65 ft (20 m) roll if your anchor points are more than 3 feet from the sail corners, or if you want extra rope for future adjustments and re-tensioning.

Material properties
Coir fibre comes from the outer husk of the coconut, processed by soaking, drying, and spinning the fibres into yarn, then twisting into rope. It is one of the few natural fibres with meaningful resistance to saltwater and moisture, which is why it has been used in outdoor and marine applications for centuries.
